Day 1: July 20, 2012 – Edmundston
6:45 am Board coach at the St. Laurent Mall (In front of East Side Mario’s)
7:00 am Board coach at Queensway Tours Office (1516 Merivale Rd)
We ask everyone to be at your respective pick up point 15 minutes prior to departure
We travel today via Montreal to Quebec City where we stop for lunch. After our brief visit in Quebec City, we make our way to Edmundston, New Brunswick for our first overnight. The Clarion Hotel, 100 Rice Street, Edmundston, NB E3V 1T4, Phone 506-739-7321. The Clarion has an elevator, friendly staff, and free internet in the lobby. Get to know your fellow travelling companions over our included welcome dinner this evening. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy- our hotel is located within walking distance of main street and the river, for those hoping to explore!
Day 2: July 21, 2012 – Summerside
7:00am - Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:00am – We travel to Cape Jourmain in order to cross the Confederation Bridge. The bridge, which opened in 1997, spans 13 kilometers and is one of the longest in the world. A stop at the Gateway Village is the first order of business before we travel to Summerside for the next two nights. Our hotel here will be the Quality Inn, Garden of the Gulf, Summerside, PEI, C1N 2V5, Phone 902-436-2295. This evening dinner is on your own in Summerside.
Day 3 – July 22, 2012 – Summerside
7:00am Continental breakfast.
8:00am We depart for Charlottetown and begin a guided tour of the provincial capital. Charlottetown offers Peake’s Quay Wharf, historic George Street, Province House, Richmond Street, Cavendish and the fictional home of the famed red orphan – Anne of Green Gables. Tonight, we will enjoy “an island tradition” treating ourselves to a lobster supper. No visit to the island is complete without this delicious indulgence! An alternative entrée will be offered for those who do not wish to partake of lobster.
Day 4 – July 23, 2012 – Sydney
7:00am Breakfast and baggage outside of door. At 8:15 am, we depart the hotel. Today we leave the “mainland” for Cape Breton. We will visit Rita’s Tea House, bought by famed Canadian entertainer, Rita McNeil. Rita and her family lived in the schoolhouse for years and as her popularity grew; her friends and fans from Big Pond would come to have a cup of tea with Rita. Even today, every once and a while visitors are lucky enough to spot Rita at the Tea House! Our sightseeing continues through the day allowing us to experience Canada’s only inland sea. This area is known for great sailing, incredible beauty, and Scottish hospitality. Tonight is spent in Sydney at the Days Inn, Phone 902-539-6750
Day 5 – July 24, 2012 – Port aux Basques/Corner Brook
8:30am Breakfast is included this morning at the hotel. Luggage arrangements will be advised by your tour director. We will have some time this morning to relax at the hotel this morning as we have arranged for a later check out. We will enjoy a drive around the city of Sydney prior to having lunch on your own. At 2:00pm we make our way to the Marine Atlantic Terminal in order to prepare for our ferry crossing. Ferry departure time is 4:15pm, we must be at the terminal 90 minutes prior to departure. Enjoy the relaxing 6 hour crossing to Port Aux Basques. Aboard the ferry, you can enjoy the restaurant and snack bar, entertainment, and internet access. Estimate arrival this evening in Port Aux Basque will be 11:30pm. Upon disembarking we will check into St. Christopher’s Hotel, Phone 709-695-3500.
Day 6 – July 25, 2012 – Port Au Choix
7:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
9:00am Departure from the hotel. Today we will discover much about Newfoundland while traveling the Viking Trail to see the awe inspiring scenery in Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We witness the spectacular coastline, quaint fishing villages and beautiful beaches as we make our way north to the site first inhabited by Leif the Lucky in 1000 AD. We overnight in Port au Choix at the Sea Echo Motel, Phone 709-861-3777. Dinner is included tonight for your enjoyment.
Day 7 – July 26, 2012 – Vineland & St.Anthony
6:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:00am Depart the hotel. Our sightseeing begins immediately with a stop at the Port au Choix National Historic sight. This afternoon we will visit the Grenfell properties in St. Anthony. Meander through the museums and rotunda filled with artifacts from the late William Grenfell’s Estate. Dr Grenfell dedicated his life to improving the lives of North Sea fishermen. Our hotel this evening is the Haven Inn, phone 709-454-9100.
Day 8: July 27, 2012 – Labrador
7:00am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:30am Our sightseeing continues on the “Viking Trail” as we make our way towards L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic site, the second of two UNESCO sites we visit. The scenery is spectacular as we round the tip of the great northern peninsula.
This afternoon we board our second ferry at 1:15pm for the short crossing through the Strait of Belle Isle to Labrador. There is a cafeteria aboard the ferry, if you wish to grab something to eat. Labrador is a world of towering mountains, massive rock faces, huge lakes and rivers that run on forever. Here the air is clean, the water clear and pure, and the people equally unspoiled. A trip to Labrador is not a run of the mill vacation. Our home while in Labrador is the Northern Light Inn, Labrador NL Phone 709-931-2332. Tonight we enjoy an included dinner at our hotel.
Day 9 – July 28, 2012 – Cow Head
7:00am Breakfast and baggage outside of door. This morning we will explore the sights and culture of Labrador. Time permitting; we will visit the Red Bay National Historic Site.
3:30pm We board the ferry for our return trip to the mainland. We then retrace our steps back to Gros Morne. Our evening tonight is spent at the Shallow Bay Motel. Phone 709-243-2471. Another delicious dinner is included this evening at your hotel, and there is often entertainment in the lounge for your enjoyment.
Day 10: July 29, 2012 – Gander
7:00am Breakfast and baggage outside of door. At 8:30 am, our journey heads west towards Grand Falls via Deer Lake. Arriving in Grand Falls we learn about the life of the Atlantic salmon at the Salmonid Interpretation Centre. We will travel to the International Air Terminal in Gander, housing a most interesting museum exhibit relating to the history of the Trans-Atlantic aviation. Day 11: July 30, 2012 – Gander
7:30am Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning.
9:00am Today we visit the beautiful out port of Twillingate. Bring your camera in the hopes that you may see a floating iceberg. We stop at Long Point Lighthouse, to snap some photos of the beautiful scenery! Dinner is included this evening at the Hotel.
Day 12: July 31, 2012 – St John’s
6:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door. At 8am, we depart our hotel. Keep your camera close at hand for wildlife along the way as we continue along the Trans Canada Highway to visit Terra Nova National Park. The park was designed to protect Newfoundland’s native habitat. There is also a visitor centre, and a gift shop. Our journey continues across the Avalon Peninsula arriving in the old seaport city of St. John’s where we will be staying for the next two nights. Our hotel is the Delta St. John’s. Day 13: Aug 01, 2012 – St. John’s
9:00am This morning we board our coach for a guided tour of St. John’s, including the panoramic view from Signal Hill, the port, and Old St. John’s. In good weather, you will get a fantastic view of the city from Signal Hill! Lunch will be on your own in Bay Bulls, before we board the state of the art Catamaran for our Whale and Puffin Cruise. The live commentary presented during this 90 minute cruise is a blend of excitement, education and adventure that our group is sure to enjoy. We may be lucky enough to spot puffins, gulls, kittiwakes, dolphins, and even whales!
Balance of the day and evening are free.
Day 14: August 2, 2012 – St. John’s
Today is a free day. Explore or go back to some of your favorite places in St. John’s! Maps of downtown St. John’s are available from the hotel. Some wonderful ways to spend your day could include the Geo Centre, Rooms Museum, the Avalon Mall, or enjoying the shopping and restaurants on Water & George Streets. Tonight when packing your luggage for departure, please put everything you will need for Day 15 in your overnight bag. We will not be taking the large suitcases off the coach on this day.
Day 15: August 3, 2012 – Corner Brook
6:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:15am Depart the hotel. We travel across the province, back to Corner Brook for our last night on “The Rock”. We will spend the night at Glynmill Inn, Phone 709-634-5181. The rest of the evening is yours to relax. Reception has maps of the Glymill Pond, where you can enjoy the falls, and perhaps spot some swans!
Day 16: August 4, 2012 – Sydney
5:30 am – 6:30am Breakfast and overnight bags to the coach
We will need to depart the hotel this morning by 6:30 am. Our day today will include the 2.5 hour journey to Port aux Basques then the 6 hour ferry ride to North Sydney. Ferry departure time is 11:00am, we must be at the terminal 90 minutes prior to departure. We say goodbye to Newfoundland and begin our ocean voyage to Sydney. Day 17: August 5, 2012 – Halifax
6:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
7:30am Depart the hotel. The scenery is still breathtaking as we make our way to Nova Scotia’s capital city, Halifax. Lunch enroute.
2:00pm We commence our 3 hour guided tour. We will visit the revived waterfront area, the old town clock and Citadel Hill to name a few sights. The balance of the evening is free to continue exploring on your own. Our hotel for the evening is The Prince George Hotel. Phone 902- 425-1986
Day 18: August 6, 2012 – Halifax
8:00am Breakfast at the hotel.
9:00am This morning we will visit one of Eastern Canada’s most scenic attractions – “Peggy’s Cove”, Nova Scotia’s most famous lighthouse. Your tour director will make arrangements for an early lunch. We return to Halifax, and the balance of the day is yours to enjoy this vibrant city. There is so much to see in Halifax, including Pier 21, the Alexander Keith’s Brewery, the Casino, and Theodore Tugboat.
Day 19: August 7, 2012 – Moncton
7:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:30am Our journey today takes us through the province of Nova Scotia into New Brunswick, to the city of Moncton. We will take time to visit the Magnetic Hill and its shops before continuing on to our hotel for the evening. Overnight at the Costal Inn. phone 506-859-2486
Day 20: August 8, 2012 – Riviere du Loup
7:30am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:30am Depart the hotel. We make a brief stop in Fredericton, the capital city of New Brunswick, before heading into the province of Quebec. Our over night destination is Riviere du Loup. Hotel Universel, Phone 418-862-9520. This evening, dinner will be included at our hotel.
Day 21: August 9, 2012 – Home
7:00am Breakfast and baggage outside of door.
8:00am Today we complete our journey home. Travelling via Quebec City and Montreal, we anticipate a an early evening arrival in Ottawa. We hope that you have enjoyed this exciting tour and all the lovely areas we have visited over the past twenty days and that you have made some wonderful new friends to keep in touch with in the future. Perhaps you’ll run into some of them again on another McCoy – Queensway tour.
