Newfoundland Adventure featuring Labrador

20 Days

July 16-Aug 4, 2010

Travel with us to the first place Europeans landed in North America. Along the way we will enjoy the culture and hospitality of Quebec and the Maritime provinces. In Newfoundland we will visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, see icebergs and whales, and learn more about Canadas youngest province. This is a trip not to be missed.

Day 1 - Edmundston

We travel today via Montreal to Quebec City, where we stop for lunch.  After our brief visit in Quebec City, we make our way to Edmundston, New Brunswick for our first overnight stay.

Day 2 - Summerside

We travel to Cape Jourmain in order to Cross the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island.  A stop at the Gateway Village is the first order of business before we travel to Summerside for the next two nights.  Tonight, we will enjoy an island tradition, treating ourselves to a lobster supper (an alternative entre will be available). No visit to the island is complete without this indulgence.

Day 3 - Summerside

Today is spent exploring this beautiful province.  Charlottetown offers Peakes Quay Wharf, historic George Street, Province House and Richmond Street. Then it is on to Cavendish and the fictional home of the famed red haired orphan, Anne of Green Gables. This evenings dinner is on your own in Summerside.

Day 4 - Sydney

Today we leave the mainland for Cape Breton.  We will visit Ritas Tea House, owned by famed Canadian entertainer, Rita McNeil. Our sightseeing continues throughout the day allowing us to experience Bras dOr Lake, Canadas only inland sea. This area is known for great sailing, incredible beauty and Scottish hospitality.  Tonight is spent in North Sydney.

Day 5 - Port aux Basques/Corner Brook

This morning we will do some informal sightseeing in the Sydney, Nova Scotia area, before boarding the Marine Atlantic Ferry at North Sydney for a relaxing 6 hour crossing to Port aux Basques.  We drive a short distance along Newfoundlands rocky coastline where we will spend the night in Corner Brook.

Day 6 - Grosse Morne/Hawkes Bay

Today we will discover more about Newfoundland while traveling the Viking Trail to see spectacular scenery in Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  We travel through areas of spectacular coastline, quaint fishing villages and beautiful beaches as we make our way north to the site first inhabited by Leif the Lucky in 1000 AD.  We spend the night in Hawkes Bay.

Day 7 - Labrador

Today we board our second ferry for the short crossing, through the Belle Strait, to Labrador.  Labrador is a world of towering mountains, massive rock faces, huge lakes and rivers that run on forever.  Here the air is clean, the water clear and pure and the people equally unspoiled.  Tonight we enjoy dinner at our hotel. (Included)

Day 8 - Roddickton

Our return journey this morning sees us returning to the mainland in time to visit the LAnse aux Meadows National Historic Site, the second of our two UNESCO sites.  We will stay overnight in Roddickton.

Day 9 - Grosse Morne

Enjoy the beautiful terrain as we travel south into the Port aux Choix area.  Some say the scenery here is unequalled in Eastern Canada.  Our evening tonight is spent in the Grosse Morne area.

Day 10/11 - Grand Falls

Our route today will see us visiting the beautiful out port of Twillingate.  Bring your camera as you may see a floating iceberg!  Well continue our scenic drive along the rocky coast of Notre Dame Bay, arriving in Grand Falls to learn about the life of the Atlantic salmon at the Salmoid Interpretation Centre.  The next day, well travel to the International Air Terminal in Gander which houses a most interesting museum exhibit related to the history of Trans-Atlantic aviation.

Days 12/13 - St. Johns

Keep your camera close at hand for wildlife sighting along the way as we continue along the Trans-Canada Highway to visit Terra Nova National Park. The park was designed to protect Newfoundlands native wildlife and their habitat.  Our journey continues across the Avalon Peninsula arriving in the old seaport city of St. Johns, where we will be staying for the next two nights.  During our stay, we will take a tour of St. Johns, including the panoramic view from Signal Hill, the port and Old St. Johns.  We will take a nature cruise to see the largest bird sanctuary and whales.  There will be a free day to discover St. Johns as you wish.

Day 14 - Corner Brook

Sit back and relax today as we travel across the province back to Corner Brook, for our last night on the rock.

Day 15 - North Sydney

Our journey continues to Port aux Basques, as we say good bye to Newfoundland and begin our ocean voyage to North Sydney.  We will overnight in Sydney.

Day 16 - Halifax

The scenery is still breathtaking as we make our way to Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia. Our mid afternoon arrival allows us plenty of time for our 3 hour guided tour. We will visit the revived waterfront area, the old town clock and Citadel Hill to name a few sights.  The balance of the evening is free to continue exploring on your own.

Day 17 - Halifax

This morning we will visit one of Eastern Canadas most scenic attractions, Peggys Cove, Nova Scotias and Canadas most famous lighthouse.  The balance of the day is yours to enjoy this vibrant city.

Day 18 - Moncton

Our journey today takes us through the province of Nova Scotia into New Brunswick, to the city of Moncton.  We will take time to visit the Magnetic Hill and its shops before continuing on to our hotel for the evening.

Day 19 - Riviere Du Loup

We make a brief stop in Fredericton, the Capital city of New Brunswick, before heading into the province of Quebec. Our overnight destination is Riviere du Loup.
