Florida Circle including Key West
16 Days
Feb 13-28, 2010
Days 1/2
Our first two days will be spent getting to know one another while traveling southward to the sunshine! We stop at duty free and take numerous coffee and lunch breaks! You'll be welcomed by the friendly folks at the hotels we have chosen in Carlisle, PA and further south in Fayetteville, NC. We enjoy a continental breakfast at each hotel!
Days 3/4
Continuing through the states of South Carolina and Georgia, we'll arrive at the "world's most famous beach", Daytona Beach. Located on the east coast of Florida, it's surrounded with pure white sandy beach and magnificent expanse of clear blue water. While in Daytona Beach, we'll have an orientation tour to acquaint us with the area, plus visit the Volusia Mall. No doubt the soothing sounds of the ocean will lull you to sleep for the next two nights.
Day 5
After our departure this morning, we will continue even further southward, stopping at the Kennedy Space Centre and then continuing past well known places such as Melbourne, Ft. Pierce, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and finally arriving at our destination for the next two nights, Ft. Lauderdale.
Day 6
This morning we will start the day off with some wonderful sightseeing in the area! We start with a dreamy cruise up the New River with its ever changing scenery; the waterfront homes, downtown Fort Lauderdale, great yacht and storage basins plus a cruise at the Jungle Queen Indian Reserve! Following the cruise we will sightsee along the beach before visiting the Sawgrass Mills Outlet.
Days 7/8
We depart Fort Lauderdale in order to travel to the very southern most tip of Florida! Passing through Miami and Key Largo, we enjoy a spectacular drive through the Keys, which boasts emerald green waters on one side of the road and sapphire blue waters on the other. Have lots of film in your camera so you can show your friends at home, because no words can ever describe this beauty. While in Key West, you will have the chance to ride the Conch Train. The tradition in Key West is to gather near the docks to watch what is said to be the most beautiful sunset known to mankind and you'll be surprised to find the local folk performing their mime, magic and music in a friendly celebration of sunset.
Days 9/10
Unfortunately, we must depart this magnificent area this morning and travel back up through the Keys to begin our journey to yet another breathtaking part of Florida on the West Coast. Our travel will take us across the Everglades and we'll stop for an air boat ride to view the alligators. We then continue on to Naples and see the exclusive stores on Third Street, before continuing north to the Fort Myers area. Thomas Edison loved it here, as did his friends, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone and so will you! Ft. Myers is appropriately called the "City of Palms" and while touring the area, you will notice that its streets are lined with more than 100 varieties of palm trees, tropical plants and flowers. We spend the next two nights in Punta Gorda. While in the area we have included a visit to the Edison House for your enjoyment.
Days 11-13
Departing this morning, we journey up through Port Charlotte, Sarasota and Bradenton to reach our accommodation for the next three nights in St. Pete's Beach. There are lots of little shops and many restaurants within a couple of blocks and you can wander to your hearts content or just relax by the beach or pool. We will also include transportation to the County Side Mall for those wishing to shop.
Days 14/15
After bidding a fond farewell to the coast of Florida, we must begin our journey homeward, traveling north through Florida into Georgia, spending one night in Fayetteville, N.C. and then continuing all the way up to Carlisle, PA.
Day 16
Our last day, the final leg of our journey, is for reminiscing over this exciting holiday and exchanging names and addresses with new found friends. We hope that you will meet again on another Queensway tour.
